Buyer verdict

The QM8K is worth shortlisting when discounted relative to the 2026 QM8L. Its strengths are format breadth, substantial local dimming and large-screen practicality rather than studio-monitor calibration.

Specifications that influence the purchase

The manufacturer lists the following product-family characteristics; the actual market or size suffix still needs to match your purchase:

Normalized product specifications
Panel 4K WHVA LCD, quantum dots, Mini-LED
Refresh 144Hz native; 4K144/1080p288 supported
Hdr Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG
Hdmi 4 HDMI inputs
Platform Google TV
Sizes 65, 75, 85, 98 inches (US)

TV and projector owners should match source output, HDR format, eARC placement, refresh-rate mode and room lighting before choosing a model. A high published refresh ceiling is not itself proof of low input lag, accurate colors or stable motion; measurements require a named independent bench test.

Limitations and real ownership trade-offs

Do not treat TCL panel-angle marketing as a guarantee of equally good seats for everybody. Independent testing also points to color accuracy and fast-transition artifacts.

Installation, compatibility and privacy checklist

Review the 98-inch model separately: RTINGS bought and tested the 98-inch and 65-inch versions, so do not merge all size outcomes. US QM8K vs international C8K naming are not automatically equivalent.

Who should skip it — and alternatives

Skip it when the principal trade-offs above collide with your home, available budget or existing ecosystem. TCL QM8L, Hisense U8QG, or LG C5 for the deepest per-pixel OLED blacks. Check local warranty and support.

How the evidence should be read

Independent evidence: RTINGS reports strong local dimming and brightness, with merely okay out-of-box accuracy and motion artifacts. Check its tested size, firmware and methodology rather than treating it as WeraOne laboratory work.

The technical table records verified listings and explicitly labelled vendor claims; it does not substitute for testing brightness, sound, throughput, security or household performance. Unknown certifications and undisclosed specifications were deliberately not filled in by inference.
