What you should know
What makes it different
Released in 2024, the TCL 50 Pro NXTPAPER 5G occupies the budget phones category for a specific reason. TCL’s 50 Pro NXTPAPER is a phone for people who spend more time reading than gaming. A dedicated hardware switch moves its matte 6.8-inch display between ordinary colors and paper-like reading modes without needing a separate e-reader.
Display, speed and day-to-day use
Its MediaTek Dimensity 6300 platform and 6.8-inch matte NXTPAPER 120Hz FHD+ LCD display define the day-to-day experience. Tech Advisor praised the anti-glare experience, reading controls and everyday value. The 512GB storage and headphone socket are useful for offline study and audiobooks, while the Dimensity 6300 is only adequate for heavier 3D games.
Cameras and limitations
The documented camera arrangement is 108MP main, 8MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro. The matte surface sacrifices some color fidelity and high-sunlight contrast. Its 108MP headline camera does not imply strong ultra-wide photos or stabilized 4K recording; the independent review criticized video and loudspeaker quality.
Battery and charging
The listed battery is 5,010mAh, with 33W wired charging. For a second-hand purchase, check battery wear and whether the original charging adapter is included.
Software and security support
Tech Advisor reported quarterly patches through March 2029 in the reviewed sales region; buyers must check that policy applies to their exact operator SKU and location. Confirm the current security patch and regional firmware eligibility before relying on it for daily banking or work.
Who should buy it in 2026?
Buy if: Readers, students and commuters who would otherwise carry a phone plus dedicated e-reader. Skip if: Photographers, people who need 4K video, or gamers seeking a high-powered chipset. On used devices, condition and remaining support matter as much as the model name.
Alternatives and regional differences
Nothing Phone (2a) for a conventional AMOLED experience; Galaxy A55 for stronger physical protection. Regional note: Global product page states colors, accessories and AI features depend on sales region.
